Joy to The Word

Jun 30 2014 Summertime in New EnglandCategory: Stuff I Love     12:04PM   0

I know I've already gushed about my east coast crush in a previous post, but I've been in Cambridge for just a few days and I'm getting excited about the little things like sitting outdoors in the evening with an extra large ice tea in Harvard Square (minus the heat lamp, jacket, cup of hot chai in my shivering hands and woolen stockings.) I've doffed the San Francisco summer uniform for minimal summer dresses (going comando feels so liberating when you get a nice upskirt breeze walking past the subway), perspiring cleavage and open-toed shoes that beg me to get a pedicure. The summer in New England soundtrack that plays in my mind features a few of my favorite songs from my anti-rock star hero, Jonathan Richman. His songs, "That Summer Feeling", "The Beach" , "New England" and his most covered classic "Roadrunner" always makes me picture driving with the top down shouting "Radio on!" and throwing glitter down Route 128 as we drive to the Cape.

I forgot to mention in last week's news: I finally got to meet the gorgeous green-eyed, mermaid-hair NYC goddess Kate Jacobs whom I've admired for a while. We met up for an early pre-dinner at one of my favorite little San Francisco noshes, Samovar Tea Lounge and dined on squash dumplings, little English sandwiches with tea parings. I hope to meet up with her again when I'm in New York City in a few weeks (July 15th-19th.) Let's have Long Island ice teas on a rooftop at midnight while dancing under the stars. "Summertime, and the livin's easy..."
